Review: Staying in Oura rather than Albufeira is quite a different holiday. Albuferia is more catered towards the family holiday whereas in Oura you have the famous 'strip' - a long road full of bars and restaurants. if you are a family I would still advise you stay here as the beaches are amazing and there are some great restaurants. But come about 11pm at night the strip comes alive to the 'younger generation' and although it is far from the likes of San Antonio or Magaluf, it is still rather noisy. Albuferia Old Town also has these type of bars, but they are not all along one road, as they are along the Strip in Oura and therefore are easier for young families to avoid.
Oura beach is a great beach - big, sandy, although the sea is cold (it's the Atlantic!) and sometimes a bit choppy if you go nearer the beginning or end of the season. But there are restaurants lining the beach which are great for lunch, and there are a stack of nearby hotels to stay in. There are watersports to be had, parasailing, banana boating, you can hire pedalos too. The guys who run this on Oura beach are a great laugh! There is a train you can take along the beach front into Albuferia Town which takes about 10 minutes and there are more shops and a beach which is even better than Oura's. A great restaurant that has to be visited in Albuferia Old Town is 'Bank' which has the most delicious food. The food is marginally better in the Old Town compared to Oura and the Strip but there is a fab Chinese in Oura that has to be eaten to be believed. Also, along the back streets in Oura is a fab little diner, made out American style that do THE best milkshakes you have ever tasted. The Oreo one is a must. |
