Review: I was lucky enough to enjoy a short break at the Mallory Court Hotel in January, 2008.
This time our stay was on a Sunday evening. Arrival was handled very well with us being shown to our room by the excellent 'Steve'.
We stayed in the main house in one of the main suites and it was lovely. The room was immaculate as ever with an enormous bed, fresh fruit, hi fi etc. A nice touch is that the bath/shower room features speakers so you can listen to your favourite tunes while having a nice relaxing soak - one minor word of caution - if your musical taste is not classical, may be worth packing some cd's (if you still have any) as the selection in the room is limited and the radio reception is poor.
The hotel has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and after travelling directly to the hotel it was lovely to shower, change and then enjoy some snacks in the relaxed lounge area. I also found another 'library' type room later which was also filled with comfortable looking settees and real log fires.. mmmm
On arrival we found out that the bistro is closed on sundays so the only option for dining at the hotel was in the Michelin restaurant (what a shame :) - but if you're on a budget, this may spell trouble with a choice of 2 menus - £39 pp and £55 pp.
The dress code is smart casual (no jeans or trainers) and i found the atmosphere in the restaurant relaxed. The food was to a high standard and touches like the lovely pre dinner canapes and post dinner chocolates were nice.
We took breakfast in our room. There were a couple of minor confusions about what constituted muesli and the toast never arrived, but the cooked breakfast was perfectly cooked and being able to relax and enjoy the lovely viewsover the gardens and surrounding countryside more than made up for a minor problem.
With regards to location, the hotel is set in its own grounds and is convenient for the motorway. If we'd arrived earlier I would also have liked to drive into Warwick which is only about 3 miles away.
Overall, this is a lovely hotel and i can easily see how it won the 2007 Visit Britain Best Small Hotel award.
Rates wise, we got good rates through Laterooms and i think the hotel represents excellent value considering the high standards compared with some city centre hotels that charge just as much far a far less polished hotel.
For a romantic treat or simple a relaxing break definitely Recommended :o) |
