Review: The Maly Hotel, Phonsavan offers rooms of various standards & prices. We had one of the bigger ensuite rooms for $20 US dollars per night (satellite TV as well). We did look at a cheaper room, this would have been fine, but the hot shower didn't work. The hotel is a little way out of the main town - approx 20 mins walk along pavement or verge. Service in the hotel restaurant can be slow but it's one of the best places to eat in the town, food is served piping hot and freshly cooked - so well worth the wait. There is a comfy guest lounge with open fire and TV/DVD. It can get cold at night, there is no heating in the bedrooms but there is a good supply of blankets. The owner of the hotel (Sousath) is an expert on "The Secret War" and has lots of memorabilia to show his interest, whole walls in the restaurant covered in shell casings and various weapons. He also has documentaries to watch on DVD - many with him appearing in. The hotel also organises excellent trips out to the Plain of Jars (4 people in a jeep for $18 per person) with very knowledgeable guides. We stayed for 2 nights and our total bill for 2 people Dinner Bed & Breakfast, including several Beers & pots of tea and our Plain of Jars trip, came to very reasonable $109 US |
