Review: Disney World, Universal Studios. Sun, sea and sand. Orlando has most of these, though you'll have to go a little further afield for the sea and sand. Orlando is the perfect place for a family with some money to spare, as the Disney tickets aren't cheap, but are certainly worth it. 4 separate theme parks and a water park provide fun for all the family, as well as many more clich?'s that I'm going to stop now.
You've also got the Universal studios park, which I didn't visit but is apparently as good as Disney. And since you're in Florida, you're not too far from the beach, and a great tan. Or horrible sunburn if you don't apply enough sunscreen.
Unlike a lot of the USA, Orlando has a fairly decent bus network, especially to the large parks, so a car isn't vital, though it will certainly help and save time. There's also plenty of chances to shop and take advantage of the dollar.
Also, when shopping remember that there is a state tax of (currently) 13%. This is similar to our VAT, but shops do not include this tax on the shelf edge price! If you see something listed at $19.99 then when you get to the till, it will be $19.99 + 13%. Not a massive problem, but makes it hard to get the money out in advance as you can't work out how much it will be in your head. |
