Review: Excellent boat trips, loads of museums and shops, good restaurants and cafes (though expensive). We were advised to purchase a Stockholm Card (about £40 equivalent) but as we went in the first week of September some of the boat trips were not included in this card and we had to pay extra. That is the time when the summer timetable turns into the winter one and some boat trips don't take place at all then. Also the hop-on and hop-off bus was not included and worked out to be quite expensive. As the weather was good, we didn't want to be inside museums, so this card was not as useful to us as it might have been. With hindsight, we'd have been better off paying as we went along. The bus fares were half-price for Senior Citizens.
We couldn't see any public toilets, so popped into smart hotels when we needed to. They had a coded entrance to the ladies' and the gents' toilets, but we were able to get the code by asking nicely at Reception. We presumed that they wouldn't give anyone the code if they didn't look presentable.
We were not seeking entertainment, but we noticed that there was a large Opera House and several bars had music. There are a lot of students there and that made for a lively atmosphere. |
